This web site is devoted to our VW transporter and the adventures we have had in it. It was built in Sept 1963 and served the United Glass Works factory fire brigade in Mannheim Germany from new until it was put out to pasture 27 years later. It had 9,345 kms on it at that time, which works out to 500 kms per year average. The van is now 50 years old and we, the second owners, have driven it to 98,000 kms. It still has the original paint and engine.
Our adventures in the bus have been collected and published under the title
Welcome to the Crumple Zone, drifting through Europe and a mid-life course correction in a VW Microbus, comprising 149 pages, 23 chapters, an epilogue, and a foreword by William Wharton, in paperback; ISBN: 1843941805. The first print edition sold out and is no longer available.
